Urban market expected to get San Jose council's OK

An urban market in San Jose was offered $6 million dollars by the city to invest for the benefit of the market. The money has not been approved yet but the city expects the money to go through. The market is owned partly by the former mayor of San Jose, Tom McEnery and his family and is located at the intersection of San Pedro Street and Santa Clara Street.

The city held a city council meeting concerning the money going to the market. There's no real reason the money should get denied. The money would go towards new buildings such as a neighborhood of shops or residential towers.

I think the money should go through because I don't really see how the money could be used otherwise. It could probably be used towards paying teachers and cross guards but I don't think it would really make much of a difference because those two problems are state-wide and not just in San Jose.

  1. haha, I like how you added where the guy lives..

I could think of a number of places where the money could be used, possibly to fund the East side union high school district? Athletics in the district has just taken a huge shot. There will only be a very few select sports allowed next year due to budget cuts. Unfortunately, many high schoolers wont have the chance to try and find out if they even like certain sports.

  2. I wrote about the same article as you did. The urban market is a great idea for downtown San Jose. It would give a better attraction for downtown and a place to walk through. You would be able to see all these vendors sell their goods and still have a good time. There are many more places to use the money for such as BART and schools, but that would even cost more. I think we should invest into the urban market.
